Excerpt from my journal on 3.20.19:
This morning we woke up before sunrise and went to the hot springs. We were the only ones there. The hot springs sit right on the edge of the Rio Grande, so we soaked in 105° water as the cold river ran past and the sky grew light and pink clouds floated by. It was magic. ✨

Two months ago I started seeing spots in my vision. I ignored them because “ain’t nobody got time for that” and “I’m too busy I just gotta push through and they’ll go away” and “it’s not THAT bad.” Then two weeks ago I started seeing more. Plus I was exhausted and felt very unmotivated. I felt like I couldn’t come up with fresh ideas and I felt uninspired. Drained. Depleted.
Because of some good advice from my friends, podcasts by @heysweetpea and a book by Rob Bell— I knew what I needed.
REST.
I’d been going full speed ahead for 2 years now, ever since I launched this lil biz. I haven’t taken a season to tend to my heart, mind and body. I worked every minute I could and made sacrifices. Don’t get me wrong, I think hustle is essential for a season. But it’s not sustainable. At some point you have to rest.
So this is my season of rest. Yes, I’m definitely still working. But I’m doing so with intention. I’m setting boundaries and allowing space for myself to go slower. I’m taking naps, I’m only checking my email at certain times each day, I’m not working after 5pm, I’m eating home cooked meals, I’m taking Saturdays off. They’re such simple changes, but they’re HUGE for me.

And after just a week, I can see the positive impact of these changes. I used to think Rest was a bad thing, it turns out it’s essential to living a full and healthy life ✨

I just finished reading How To Be Here by @realrobbell and geez were there so many truths that hit home for me within those pages. One of those being this: “We are tactile creatures. Fabric, leather, graphics, paint, paper— these substances and surfaces we surround ourselves with powerfully affect us. Our external environments mirror our internal lives.” I see this in everything I do. From my apartment to the logos I design for businesses, from the coffee shops I inhabit to the clothes I wear. All those visual things impact my inner life. So it’s important that I curate those things the best that I can! Obviously it’s not possible to do all the time and some days it’s easier to leave my workspace a mess than to clean it, but on my good days I notice how much more inspired and focused I am when I have a tidy desk, the perfect playlist singing and my fav candle burning. ✨Anyone else feel this way?
